Quote 1: "We are captives of our own identities living in prisons of our own creation" - T-Bag (Prison Break)

"We are captives of our own identities living in prisons of our own creation" - T-Bag (Prison Break)

I find this statement to be very ambiguous as everyone would have their own perception of what T-Bag is trying to say. I believe that here he is referring to the invisible boxes that we humans live in on a daily bases. We try to captivate ourselves by telling ourself that this is who we are. We prevent ourselves from taking on new adventures due to the fear of being hurt. This inspired me to step outside of my comfort zone and to make myself always willing to undertake new ventures. Secondly I think what T-Bag was trying to say was that we tend to live in the past - surrounded by all the mistakes we have made rather than thinking of ways in which we can change and become a better 'us'. Many of us would disagree with and I don't blame you, because even I didn't think I lived in the past - that is until I had time to reflect on who I am today. One thing that I believe everyone gets from this quote is a sense of self guilt that we are the reason why we are unhappy today. However, I like to think of the glass as half full so I think it is important for everyone to live in the presence and hope the best for the future.

  1. Well said... But can we really escape who we are? If not then we really are captives of our own identities

  2. Exactly. We have made our own identities due to experience and spirit, but how can we change when the world around us treats us the same as we once were?

  3. Totally. This is a great quote, and very relevant in the context it is said. I don't think there's much room for interpretation. T-Bag is a criminal, he tried to be something else but failed, he blames himself for the weakness of being trapped in his own personality, which he created with his decisions in the past.
As the saying goes: “Watch your thoughts; for they become words. Watch your words; for they become actions. Watch your actions; for they become habits. Watch your habits; for they become character. Watch your character for it will become your destiny.”.
